About Master in MSc Mathematics

The MSc Mathematics at the University of Bremen is a four-semester research-oriented programme open to graduates in mathematics or comparable fields. The teaching profile is built around research-based learning, and students can shape their programme according to their individual scientific interests. Students choose a primary specialisation from four areas — Algebra, Analysis, Numerical Analysis, or Statistics/Stochastics — while taking courses in the remaining three areas to broaden their knowledge. The programme offers two curriculum variants: a more theoretical direction focused entirely on mathematics, or an application-oriented track in which students add a secondary subject. Available secondary subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geosciences, Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, and Physics, with language availability varying by subject. The first three semesters combine lectures, graduate seminars, reading courses, and general studies modules; the fourth semester is reserved for the Master's thesis. The programme can start in the winter or summer semester. Students also have access to several Collaborative Research Centres and Research Training Groups within the department. The programme is offered at the University of Bremen in Bremen, Germany.
