The MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience (MCNB) at Freie Universität Berlin is a four-semester research-focused programme starting in the winter semester, offered by the Department of Education and Psychology. It covers neurocognitive psychology, biological psychology, and cognitive neuroscience, with the aim of preparing students for applied research careers in these fields. The programme is divided into two phases. The first year constitutes the study phase, in which students take compulsory courses across the programme's core themes and develop the methodological skills needed for subsequent research. Topics include perception, attention, and cognitive control; memory, emotion, language, and consciousness; neurocognitive methods and data analysis; probabilistic and statistical modelling; programming; and practical neurocognitive lab work. The second year shifts to the research phase, during which the timetable is reduced and students pursue their own research projects under faculty supervision.
