The MSc programme in Economic Systems is a joint programme between Freie Universität Berlin and the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Belgrade. It is designed for students interested in theoretical models and empirical methods in comparative and international economics, socio-economic development and economic policy in emerging economies, and economic analysis from an interdisciplinary perspective. A regional focus on East-Central and South-Eastern Europe, including Russia and the post-Soviet states, runs throughout the curriculum. The programme spans 4 semesters starting in the winter semester. The first year is spent at the University of Belgrade, where students complete compulsory modules in mathematics and modelling, applied microeconomics, public finance, econometrics, microeconometrics, policy analysis, machine learning and data mining, macroeconomics, and applied macro-finance, alongside one compulsory elective. Practical work experience through an internship and language course is also required in this year. The second year is spent at Freie Universität Berlin, where students specialise in the economies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia; comparative economics; research and writing; and selected topics in economics and East European studies. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis. Graduates are prepared for positions in economic analysis and consulting in the public and private sectors, international organisations, NGOs, and academic institutions. The programme also qualifies students for doctoral programmes in economics or social sciences. The programme is offered at Freie Universität Berlin in Berlin, Germany.
