Graduates of the MSc Accounting with a Placement Year take up positions such as financial accountant, management accountant, auditor, data or business analyst, consultant or academic researcher. They are hired by major accountancy firms, multinational corporations, public-sector organisations and specialist consultancies, and many continue onto doctoral study or professional qualifications.

The course is delivered over two years. Year 1 is a modular carousel offering stand-alone units on international corporate reporting, business research methods, strategic management accounting, data analytics for accounting and a range of optional topics, together with a year-long employability skills module that prepares students for the placement. Support is provided through a dedicated placement preparation programme, workshops and one-to-one guidance, ensuring students develop the skills required to secure and succeed in their placement. Year 2 consists of a compulsory eight-to-ten-month paid placement in a UK organisation; if a placement cannot be secured, students complete three structured industry projects. Flexible entry points are available in September and January, allowing students to begin at either time.
