Each week you will spend time in the Health Skills and Simulation Suite practising physical health skills, engaging with immersive VR scenarios and completing simulated patient interactions, alongside classroom lectures and digital learning activities. Practical skills sessions total around 200 hours in the first year, and you will also undertake a 14-week placement in a mental health setting to apply theory to real patients.

You will progress from foundational science and nursing practice in year 1 to specialised crisis care and evidence-based practice in years 2 and 3.

A core component is the “Fundamentals of Nursing Practice” module, which delivers 200 hours of simulated learning and prepares you for the initial placement; this early hands-on experience builds the confidence needed for later modules such as “Crisis Care Management” and the extensive 18-week placements in later years, ensuring you develop the competence required for NMC registration.
