About Master in MEng Mechanical Engineering 2026/27

In the final year you will work on a multidisciplinary design project based on a real-world brief from an industry client, visiting the site and presenting proposals to the client. The project brings together the full range of skills you have built up over the degree and gives you a portfolio piece that can be shown to employers.

The programme begins with an integrated first year that covers core engineering principles – fluids, thermodynamics, materials, electronics – and includes group design exercises and an optional Engineers Without Borders competition. Throughout the course you have access to the Productivity East hub, which houses CAD stations, 3-D printers, subtractive manufacturing tools and collaborative robots, and you can showcase your work at events such as the annual Select Partnership Scheme.

  • Final-year multidisciplinary design project with a real industry brief.
  • Access to Productivity East facilities (CAD, 3-D printing, collaborative robots).
  • Accreditation under review by the IET and IMechE.
  • Opportunities to enter the Greenpower car challenge and Formula 24+ competition.
  • Annual Select Partnership Scheme linking students with industry professionals.
