Graduates of the MSci Medical Sciences intercalated degree typically return to their MBChB programme with a deeper understanding of biomedical research, positioning them for roles in clinical specialties, research posts or further academic study. The course’s most distinctive feature is the opportunity to undertake a novel, four-month research project supervised by leading academics and clinicians, supported by Birmingham’s internationally recognised translational cancer research centre.

Students explore cutting-edge developments across themes such as cardiovascular science, neurogenetics, immunology, ageing, endocrinology and cancer sciences. Teaching blends lectures, seminars and laboratory work, and assessment includes coursework, oral presentations and a dissertation submitted in April/May.
