PhD in MD/PhD Programme: Molecular Medicine

The MD/PhD Programme in Molecular Medicine at Hannover Medical School is a six-semester research doctorate lasting three to four years. It brings together medical graduates and life scientists in a structured research environment spanning more than twenty departments of MHH and several partner institutes including the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute Mariensee. Research projects are drawn from immunology, infection biology, oncology, stem cell biology and differentiation, cell biology, and genetics. Projects address topics such as infectious and inflammatory diseases, signal transduction, oncology, and stem cell differentiation and gene therapy approaches. The programme is designed to connect basic science with clinical research, and interdisciplinary exchange between participants is a central aim. The programme admits approximately twenty students per year. Students attend 300 hours of lectures and seminars and complete soft skills courses over the course of the programme. Each student is supervised by a main supervisor and two co-supervisors from different departments. Attendance at academic conferences is supported. The programme is based at Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany, with winter semester intake.
