The MSc Mathematics programme at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg has a strong applied focus. While the curriculum maintains the theoretical foundations of mathematical methods, the applied emphasis prepares students to address practical research problems in fields such as science, engineering, data science, and finance. The programme includes courses in data science, optimisation, numerical methods, and stochastics. A distinctive feature of the programme is the requirement to take a number of courses from either Economics or one of the science and engineering programmes, such as Physics or Computer Science. This structure allows students to prepare for careers in any of these branches and also creates natural connections with peers from related disciplines early in the programme. Language courses are available as part of the general studies component. Because many courses are shared across study programmes, students engage with fellow students from Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Engineering, and Physics from an early stage. The programme spans four semesters and is open at both winter and summer semester entry points. It is situated in Cottbus, a region currently undergoing a transition toward renewable energy, at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg.
