Master in Mathematics (MSc)

The Master's degree programme in Mathematics at the University of Marburg provides advanced training in both pure and applied mathematics, with attention to the demands of professional contexts including business, industry, and public service. Students develop independent scientific working skills at an advanced level and gain the ability to engage critically with modern mathematical knowledge. The curriculum is built around a large range of compulsory elective modules in pure and applied mathematics, supplemented by practical and seminar modules. The practical and seminar component includes two seminars in which students work with scientific literature and practice communicating mathematical content, as well as an internship in either an industrial or an internal setting. Students may also choose an optional profile area drawing on modules from a different subject area where mathematical thinking applies. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis addressing research-related problems. Students may also sit exams in German. The programme runs over four semesters with entry in either the winter or summer semester. Students should have been awarded at least 144 ECTS points at the time of application.
