Master in Mathematics and Computer Science

Augsburg, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's programme in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Augsburg is an interdisciplinary four-semester degree that combines the two fields in roughly equal proportions. The programme reflects the growing connections between mathematics and computer science: mathematics increasingly requires algorithmic grounding in areas such as optimisation, statistics, data science, and image processing, while computer science increasingly depends on mathematical foundations in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, process mining, and quantum computing. The curriculum is organised around four module groups. The mathematics component covers applied and algorithm-related mathematics with elective options in both pure and applied areas. The computer science component covers machine learning, deep learning, data science, and quantum computing, with optional lab courses. A seminar and project module component includes one seminar in each discipline, an application module, and a scientific project supervised on a one-to-one basis. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis. Admission requires documented background in both mathematics and computer science. The programme accepts entry in both winter and summer semesters. It is offered at the University of Augsburg in Augsburg, Germany.
