Master in Mathematics and Computer Science (MSc)

Saarbrücken, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The integrated Master's programme in Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University allows students to specialise in research areas that sit at the boundary between the two disciplines. The programme draws on the strengths of both departments and supports work across a wide range of fields, including free probability and random matrices, quantum groups, quantum information, functional analysis, mathematical statistics, stochastic differential equations and financial mathematics, partial differential equations, optimisation, algebra and algebraic geometry, artificial intelligence, computational biology, computational linguistics, computer graphics, algorithms and data structures, complexity theory, computer networks, image processing, information and database systems, logic, programming languages, machine learning, human-computer interaction, formal methods, and security and cryptography. Students take 30 ECTS from core and advanced courses across both departments and one seminar. The choice of courses is otherwise free, allowing each student to focus on the area of mathematics and computer science that interests them most. The programme runs over four semesters with entry in both winter and summer semesters. The Max Planck Institutes for Computer Science and Software Systems, the German Center for Artificial Intelligence, and CISPA are located on the same campus, contributing to the research environment. The programme is based at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany.
