This master's program in Materials Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology is taught in English in Poland, over three semesters, with annual tuition of 5,600 EUR. The specialisation's selected subjects include metallurgy for casting and welding processes, welding technologies, surface engineering, and metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and composite materials. Further coursework covers laser and plasma-based welding and surface treatment, quality control in welding and surface engineering, the mechanisms of materials wear and decohesion, and computer modelling of welding processes. Students also study advanced examination techniques in materials science, the heat treatment of engineering materials, technologies for anticorrosion and wear protection, and CAx methods used in manufacturing and management. On completing the course, graduates understand the physical basis of the construction and operation of laser devices and hold theoretical knowledge of how a focused laser beam interacts with matter. They know the basic methods of laser materials processing and can select the parameters and properties of a laser beam for a specific application or processing method. Graduates also gain knowledge of material technologies, the principles behind selecting and designing engineering materials, and how to shape their properties. This welding- and laser-focused materials engineering track prepares graduates for roles such as welding engineer, materials testing specialist, surface treatment engineer, or quality control officer within manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and heavy industry sectors across Poland and the wider European market.
