The Master's programme in Molecular Medicine at Ulm University is designed for graduates from life sciences backgrounds, including biochemistry, biomedical science, human biology, molecular biology, molecular biotechnology, molecular life science, and molecular medicine. The programme allows students to deepen their understanding of the molecular pathways involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and death, the physiology of cells and organs, and the pathophysiology of diseases, while also strengthening laboratory skills. The four-semester programme is taught entirely in English, including lectures, seminars, practical training courses, and examinations. The first semester covers topics such as cell and developmental biology, bioinformatics and systems biology, and pharmacology and drug development, alongside a three-week laboratory methods practicum. The second and third semesters focus on practical research work across four main subject blocks — Molecular Oncology, Trauma and Infection, Cell Biology, and Toxicology — delivered over two blocks per semester. Additional courses in that phase address clinical trials, bioethics, good scientific practice, and project management. The fourth semester is dedicated to the practical Master's thesis, which concludes with an oral examination. Double degree options with partner universities in Padua, Italy, and Oulu, Finland, and specialisation tracks in Molecular Oncology or Toxicology are available and require a separate application after admission in the first year. The programme is offered at Ulm University in Ulm, Germany.
