The Master's programme in Mathematics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is research-oriented and covers a wide range of pure and applied mathematics subjects. Faculty expertise spans algebra and geometry, analysis and differential equations, numerical analysis and partial differential equations, scientific computing, inverse problems, computational and data sciences, computational statistics, stochastics, and stochastic processes in finance, actuarial science, and engineering. Students have flexibility to compose their course selection across pure and applied mathematics and may also take courses in non-mathematics subjects such as computer science, physics, economics, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. Research and student seminars develop students' ability to engage critically with recent publications and present material to an audience. Three research centres embedded in KIT — the Collaborative Research Centre CRC1173, KIT Center MathSEE, and Research Training Group RTG2229 — are accessible to students within the programme. The programme runs over four semesters, starting in either the winter or summer semester, and concludes with a Master's thesis in the fourth semester.
