About the Program

The MDKE programme focuses on engineering for data and knowledge, aiming to convert passive data into exploitable knowledge. It covers the design and development of advanced databases, knowledge bases, and expert systems; methods for extracting models and patterns from conventional data, texts, and multimedia; and modelling instruments for representing and updating extracted knowledge. Application areas span business intelligence, industry, life sciences, biotechnology, and security. The programme is organised across four thematic areas: Fundamentals of Data Science, Learning Methods and Models, Data Processing and Data Science, and Applied Data Science, which includes business, industry, medicine and healthcare, engineering, and core computer science applications such as security and software engineering. Each student must participate in at least one team project in Applied Data Science. The programme can be studied in German or English, and is open to students proficient in either language. The degree runs over 4 semesters, with the fourth semester dedicated to the Master's thesis. The programme is open to entry in both the winter and summer semesters.
