About the Program

Data Engineering and Analytics is a four-semester master's programme at TUM that addresses the challenge of handling and analysing very large data sets, combining foundations in data analysis, data engineering, and their applications. The programme is offered by the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology, which brings together Mathematics, Informatics, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. The curriculum is structured around three areas. Data Analysis covers fundamentals of understanding and modelling data, including topics such as Fundamentals of Convex Optimisation and Computational Statistics. Data Engineering covers construction of systems for efficient and scalable data processing, distributed systems, distributed databases, query optimisation, and high-performance computing. Data Engineering and Analytics offers courses in machine learning, business analytics, computer vision, and scientific visualisation. Mandatory courses cover both Data Analysis and Data Engineering. The Master's thesis is written in the fourth semester, and students also engage with social and ethical implications of big data management through technical courses and specialist support electives.
