About Master of Science in Physics (International Physics)

The MSc in Physics (International Physics) at Paderborn University offers three specialisations students may choose between. The General Physics specialisation allows selection of any modules from the course catalogue, with many elective courses concentrating on computational physics, materials science, and the optoelectronic properties of micro- and nano-structures. The Photonic Quantum Technologies specialisation provides in-depth instruction in quantum optics, quantum computing, and quantum information technology, supported by the PhoQS Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems. The Optoelectronics, Materials, Devices specialisation focuses on optoelectronic semiconductor elements, optics, and photonics. The programme runs over four semesters. The first two semesters combine compulsory and elective lectures in theoretical and experimental physics with seminars, practical classes, and two courses in technical English. The third semester includes a preparatory research phase, and the fourth is devoted to the Master's thesis, which is typically defended in a colloquium. Entry is possible in the winter or summer semester. The chosen specialisation is noted on the degree certificate. The programme is offered at Paderborn University in Paderborn, Germany.
