Master of Science in Optoelectronics & Photonics

Paderborn, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The MSc in Optoelectronics and Photonics at Paderborn University is a two-year programme situated at the intersection of physics, precision engineering, and optical technology. The first two semesters cover compulsory courses in physics and electrical engineering alongside practical lab work, building a broad technical foundation. From the second and third semesters, students move into elective courses aligned with their interests and chosen specialisation in optical technologies, complemented by seminars and a general studies component that includes the option to take German language classes. In the second year, students join one of the research groups within the departments to work on a supervised individual lab project. This project may form the basis for the Master's thesis, which is submitted toward the end of the fourth semester and then defended in a colloquium. The programme starts in the winter semester and is taught entirely in English. Graduates hold a deep understanding of optical technology fundamentals and are prepared for work in research, the optics and electronics industry, or entry into PhD programmes. The programme is offered at Paderborn University in Paderborn, Germany.
