About the Program

The MA Anthropology at Leipzig University is a two-year programme with a strong research orientation for students who have completed a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a related discipline. The first academic year is structured around advanced theoretical reading, reflection on research methods, and the development of academic skills including research proposal writing and journal-style essay writing. Students can also deepen their regional expertise through electives drawn from across the faculties of social sciences and humanities. The third semester is dedicated to research: students either conduct fieldwork for their Master's thesis or complete a research internship for practical training. The fourth semester is devoted to writing the MA thesis, which is approximately 30,000 words. All core courses are taught in English; electives may be in English or German. Admission includes completion of a subject-specific aptitude test (Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung). The programme starts in the winter semester and is based at Leipzig University in Leipzig, Germany.
