Master in Manuscript Cultures

The Master's programme in Manuscript Cultures at the University of Hamburg focuses on manuscript research across regions in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Students learn to work with manuscripts analytically and independently, examining the texts, images, notes, and diagrams they contain through both cultural and scientific approaches, including materials analysis. A free elective area allows students to choose courses from the degree programme or from the Faculty of Humanities according to their interests, reinforcing interdisciplinary expertise and enabling language or specialist course work where methodologically relevant.
