Saarland University is one of the world's leading centres for computational linguistics and language technology. The master programme 'Language Science and Technology' offers students from around the world the opportunity to focus on various fields of language processing such as computational linguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics and speech science or speech technology. Students benefit from the close proximity of university institutes to a number of highly respected external research institutions, including the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPII), and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS).

This programme is particularly strong in its emphasis on research and development, with close personal supervision in small learning groups and early introduction to research fields. A European Master's degree programme in Language and Communication Technologies is also offered within the framework of the European Erasmus Mundus cooperation and mobility scheme.
