Bachelor in Linguistics

This bachelor's program in Applied Linguistics, an English-language program offered by the State Higher Vocational School in Wałcz, Poland, is designed for students who want to study English even if their starting level in the language is not strong. Taught in English, the programme runs over three years, or six semesters. The programme offers two specialisations: English for legal and business use, focused on translation, and the structural and cultural aspects of English, a more philological track, both with the option of adding a language-teaching specialisation. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree and are trained as specialists in English. During the six semesters of study, students take coursework, take part in projects, gain work experience through internships, and accumulate at least 180 ECTS credits, a total that allows credit transfer to other universities within the European Union. Graduates are also prepared to continue on to a master's degree. In terms of their chosen main language, graduates reach a near-native level of proficiency, at C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages set by the Council of Europe. Within their chosen specialisation, students build skills in written and oral translation, including sight translation and consecutive interpreting, for publishers, research institutions, civil society organisations, government bodies, and media outlets. Students also study the theoretical and practical aspects of the English language alongside its literature and culture. Students are additionally required to study a second foreign language, either German or Spanish, up to B2 level, and a third language of their choice to a basic working or survival level, distinct from their primary or secondary languages.
