Bachelor in Licence - Sciences du langage

Language Sciences — Licence Sciences du langage — is a three-year bachelor-level degree offered in French at the Université de Tours (37) in Tours, France, beginning in September. Yearly tuition is 178 EUR. Sciences du langage is the scientific study of language as a human faculty and social phenomenon. The discipline encompasses linguistics in its main branches: phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Students learn to describe and analyse the structures of languages using formal and empirical methods, and to situate linguistic phenomena within broader cognitive, social, and historical contexts. Courses typically introduce students to general linguistics theory alongside the specific study of French and one or more other languages. Sociolinguistics examines variation across regions, social groups, and speech communities, while psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics address how language is acquired and processed. Applied areas such as language teaching methodology, lexicography, and natural language processing are common in later years of the programme. All instruction is in French. Graduates pursue careers in language teaching, speech therapy (following further specialised training), translation, lexicography, publishing, and digital language technology. Many continue to a master's degree in linguistics, didactics of languages, or computational linguistics.
