Bachelor in Licence - Musicologie

Music as an academic subject, studied through a bachelor's degree in Musicologie, examines music as a historical, theoretical, and cultural subject, combining analytical, historical, and sometimes practical training. The discipline generally covers the history of Western music across different periods, music theory and analysis, including harmony and the study of musical form, and coursework situating music within broader social and cultural contexts. Students typically study notation and score analysis, the history of musical styles and major composers, and may encounter ethnomusicology, the study of music across different cultures and traditions, or the sociology of musical practice. Depending on the program, some coursework may also address acoustics, the technical basis of sound, or the use of music technology and recording. While musicology is primarily an academic and analytical discipline rather than a performance degree, many programs allow or require some level of practical musical training alongside theoretical study. Graduates commonly pursue further study toward teaching careers in music education, or move into roles in cultural administration, arts programming, music journalism and criticism, archival and library work related to music, or positions with orchestras, concert venues, and cultural institutions.
