This programme begins with a 3-week Orientation practical at a local school, where you'll start to gain a sense of the classroom as both a student and a teacher.

Students of the Lehramt Sekundarstufe 1 programme at the Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg study two of 21 possible subjects, including Biology, Physics, Music, and Political Science, aiding selection of relevant and interesting topics for the classroom, and how to effectively prepare and present them.

Your studies will also encompass the Bildungswissenschaften, where you'll learn how to apply educational theory to practice, and to tackle the multifaceted challenges of the role. You'll be given the tools to further the personal and social development of 11- to 16-year-olds in your care, fostering their skills to actively participate in society.

There are options for in-depth study of English or French, or of the European school system. You can continue your studies in the Master programme, which is required for a career as a teacher.
