The MSc in Landscape Ecology at the University of Hohenheim examines the relationships between biodiversity, climate, soils, land use, and nature conservation. The programme develops ecological knowledge, quantitative skills, and practical experience for studying ecological dynamics in changing environmental conditions, with an emphasis on project-based and team-based work. Fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and computer-based activities are integrated throughout. The programme spans 4 semesters. In the first year, students build in-depth knowledge of ecology, biodiversity dynamics, and nature conservation, with courses available in animal ecology, vegetation ecology, agroecology, ecological modelling, GIS, and remote sensing. The second year offers a broad range of elective modules across topics such as global environmental change, agricultural and molecular ecology, soil sciences, and transformation sciences. Students may also spend a semester at a partner university abroad. The Master's thesis can be completed as part of a research project in Germany, Europe, or elsewhere. Graduates are prepared for work in ecological and biodiversity research, nature conservation agencies, sustainable resource management organisations, landscape planning, research communication, and environmental education. The programme begins in the winter semester and is based at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany.
