About PhD in International Max Planck Research School – Biological Intelligence

IMPRS-BI is a structured English-language PhD programme focused on understanding how nervous systems develop and have evolved to support animal behaviour and ecological adaptation. Research directions include neuroscience, behavioural ecology, and evolutionary genetics, and the programme spans work in behaviour, neurobiology, connectomics, ecology, and evolutionary genetics. The school brings together the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence with Ludwig Maximilian University Munich and the Technical University of Munich. The programme runs for 8 semesters and begins in the winter semester. Each student's thesis is conducted under the supervision of a direct adviser and a thesis advisory committee. A training curriculum covering scientific, computational, and transferable skills is tailored to individual student needs. Fully funded doctoral positions are available. The programme is hosted at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence in Planegg, Germany.
