Master in International Finance

The Master's programme in International Finance at HWR Berlin is designed for students with a Bachelor's background in finance who want to develop advanced expertise in corporate and capital market finance with an international orientation. The programme is practice-oriented and covers asset and risk management, fintechs, and sustainability alongside the core finance disciplines. Teaching is conducted entirely in English. The three-semester programme moves from foundational modules to specialised study. The first semester covers international corporate finance, econometrics, financial economics, corporate financial theory and policy, and a tutorial seminar. The second semester introduces international accounting, financial risk management, management of international asset portfolios, and issues in financial and non-financial reporting — of which students choose three of the four — plus one elective from the Master's pool and a tutorial seminar. The third semester is reserved for the research seminar, Master's thesis, and final oral exam. If a student does not hold the required internship experience at the point of application, an internship in the third semester extends the programme from three to four semesters. Similarly, applicants holding fewer than 210 ECTS must complete additional credits during a placement semester. The programme is based at HWR Berlin in Berlin, with intake in the winter semester.
