Master in International Economics

The Master's in International Economics at HWR Berlin provides a critical and pluralist understanding of contemporary economic debates, incorporating both mainstream and heterodox approaches. The programme takes an interdisciplinary perspective, examining how social and political institutions shape economic developments and addressing current global challenges including macroeconomic instability, inequality, global and regional imbalances, and ecological constraints on economic activity. The programme runs over three semesters. The first semester covers four compulsory courses at Master's level: International Economics, Macroeconomics, Development Economics, and Global Governance. In the second semester, students participate in a project seminar focused on current issues in International Economics and choose three elective courses from options such as distribution and growth, econometrics, international political economy, feminist economics, ecological economics, and the role of Europe in a multipolar world. The third semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. The programme is based at HWR Berlin in Berlin, with intake in the winter semester.
