Master in Intellectual Property and New Technologies

Kraków, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Intellectual Property and New Technologies is a master's programme at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, taught in English over one and a half years across three semesters. The programme was developed in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation and delivers comprehensive knowledge on the legal protection and commercial exploitation of new technologies, an area the university notes creates new opportunities in life and science while building connections between people from different countries and cultures, and at the same time raises serious challenges for intellectual property law. The curriculum takes a comparative approach to intellectual property regulation, using European Union law as its main point of reference, and covers new technologies and patent law, copyright in the digital era, commercial communication as it relates to trade marks, designs and unfair competition, data protection and privacy and personal rights on the internet, and the liability of internet service providers, among other topics. The first, non-residential semester is delivered entirely online through an e-learning platform, while the remaining two semesters take place in Kraków and combine traditional lectures and seminars with continued e-learning. This structure allows students who cannot relocate immediately to begin their studies remotely before joining the programme in person. Graduates are described as well prepared for work in international and domestic corporations and institutions active in the field of new technologies, as well as in non-governmental organisations. The combination of legal training, technology focus, and international perspective suits students planning careers in intellectual property law, technology policy, or legal consulting for companies operating across borders.
