The Master's programme in Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) addresses research and practice at the intersection of society and nature, framed within the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The curriculum integrates knowledge from both natural and social sciences, drawing on ecological systems, political science, institutional analysis, and advanced research methods to support improved understanding and implementation of natural resource management. The programme offers four compulsory modules — covering agroecosystems and sustainable resource use, environmental and resource economics, soil and water protection, and institutional economics and political economy — together with focal modules chosen from six priority areas including methodology and modelling of sustainability, sustainable production processes, land and water, biodiversity and nature conservation, and climate change and renewable energy. Elective modules can be drawn from any Master's programme at universities in the Berlin area. Students at HU Berlin have access to scientists from policy-oriented and sustainability-oriented research institutes in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, which has a high concentration of such institutes and think tanks.
