The Integrated Graduate School Solvation Science (iGSS) is part of the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV and supports doctoral students conducting research into solvation science — the study of how solvents actively control, mediate, and regulate chemical reactions and processes. Research within RESOLV spans experimental chemistry, theory, and chemical engineering across six institutions in the Ruhr region, with over 200 scientists investigating applications ranging from green technologies to smart sensors. The school offers two entry tracks. Track I is for Master's degree holders and follows a three-year structured doctoral programme leading to a degree from Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, or the University of Duisburg-Essen. Track II is for students with a top-level Bachelor's degree and begins with one year of preparatory coursework starting in October, after which students follow the same curriculum as Track I students. Both tracks include a structured curriculum of lectures, an international internship, colloquia, and workshops centred on solvation science, as well as annual workshops and summer schools. Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed monthly. Track II applicants should submit by 15 May to begin in October. The programme is offered at Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Bochum.
