About Master in Information and Communication Engineering

The Master of Science in Information and Communication Engineering at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences connects subdisciplines from electrical engineering, communications engineering, and information engineering. Core modules cover embedded signal processing and smart sensor systems. Elective courses span wireless systems, distributed systems and applications, communication networks, radio frequency systems, security, safety of critical systems, machine learning and neural networks, and System-on-Chip. The programme also includes sustainable research projects and a Master's thesis with colloquium. The three-semester programme starts in the winter semester. The first two semesters combine lectures in small groups with lab work; a quarter of the time in almost all taught modules is reserved for laboratory exercises. Students complete two required projects on topics analogous to real industrial problems, presenting them at a small conference at the end of the semester. The Master's thesis is written in the third semester, typically in partnership with industry on a topic related to real research and development projects. The programme is taught in person only. Applicants whose Bachelor's degree is equivalent to 180 credit points must attain an additional 30 credit points within the first two semesters, which will generally extend studies by one semester. The programme is offered at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany.
