Informatics is a master's program taught in English at the Silesian University of Technology in Poland, running over three semesters with yearly tuition of 2400 EUR. The program is built from courses that give students specialized knowledge in information technology and computer science, with common compulsory courses covering the evaluation of computer network and system performance, digital modeling, computer vision and pattern recognition, and the design and analysis of advanced computer systems. Students choose one of two elective specialization tracks: industrial informatics systems, or internet of things technology. The industrial informatics systems track covers real-time systems, industrial computers and network design, software certification, and control algorithms. The internet of things track covers IoT networks and devices, cloud computing and data analysis, software development methodologies, and augmented and virtual reality systems. Graduates are prepared to work as software developers or computer systems and network engineers, and the scientific background gained during the program also positions them for roles in company research and development departments or in science more broadly. Informatics as a discipline spans the theory and application of computing, and a master's-level program with tracks in industrial systems and IoT reflects how computing increasingly connects to physical infrastructure and networked devices rather than standalone software alone.
