Industrial Design focuses on conceiving and developing the physical products people use every day, blending creative form-making with engineering, ergonomics, and manufacturing knowledge. Students typically study sketching and visualization, 3D modeling, materials and manufacturing processes, ergonomics, and design theory, learning to move a product concept from initial idea through prototyping to a manufacturable design. Studio-based coursework is central to the field, with students regularly presenting and critiquing design projects, building physical or digital prototypes, and learning to justify design decisions based on user needs, functionality, and production constraints. Graduates work as product designers, design researchers, and design consultants across industries including consumer electronics, furniture, automotive, and household goods, and some pursue further study in design, human-computer interaction, or engineering.
