About MSc Global Change Ecology

Global Change Ecology is a four-semester Master's programme at the University of Bayreuth established in 2006 as part of the Elite Network of Bavaria, focused on understanding and analysing global change across environmental, ecological, and societal dimensions. The programme links natural science perspectives on global change with social science approaches, and covers the nexus of water, land use, climate, ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental and economic policy responses. Course modules span lectures, seminars, exercises, and field courses in environmental change, ecological change, and societal change. Method courses cover modelling, statistics, use of remotely sensed data, life cycle assessment, geographic information systems, international environmental law, and impact assessment on land use and ecosystem services. The curriculum is modular and largely flexible; students can also earn credits for internships and science school participation. A research module prepares students for scientific writing, research data management, and thesis planning. The programme starts in the winter semester. The programme is offered at the University of Bayreuth in Bayreuth, Germany.
