About GIS Essentials

Tuition comes to 3,062 CAD total programme cost.

The GIS Essentials microcredential prepares individuals for mapping and spatial analysis roles in government, consulting, forestry, mining, and First Nations organizations. It teaches how to create maps using ArcGIS software and covers core cartography principles. The program builds practical skills that employers value in geographic information systems.

The 175-hour program runs online and is self-paced. It uses asynchronous learning with tutor support but no live instruction. Four courses cover GIS essentials, data handling, project management, and data collection methods. All work must be completed through Okanagan College, with at least half of the program done via the college.

There are no admission requirements. The program starts in September 2026. To graduate, each course must be passed with a minimum grade of 60%. This microcredential provides a foundation for further study in advanced GIS topics.
