Gerontology Practice

The programme is delivered part-time over two years on campus. In the first year students complete four mandatory modules – Ageing, Health Assessment and Management in the Older Person, Contemporary Legal and Professional Issues, Contemporary Approaches to Care of the Older Person and Advanced Research Skills – each worth ten credits. The second year focuses on Dementia, Delirium and Mental Health in the Older Person, also ten credits, bringing the total to sixty credits for the postgraduate diploma.

Graduates move into roles across acute, community and long-stay settings, applying evidence-based, person-centred interventions for older adults. The qualification is aimed at nurses registered with the NMBI or health and social care professionals registered with CORU, preparing them for specialist practice, leadership positions or further study in gerontology and related fields.
