The programme is spread over three years. In the first year students develop basic proficiency in French and German while studying the cultures, linguistics and introductory translation. Modules such as French Language 1 (Beginners) and German Language 1 (Beginners) are combined with courses on European film, literature and the science of language.

Week by week students attend language workshops, seminars on identity and nation, and practical translation sessions. They analyse films, read landmark texts and discuss the role of language in society, moving from beginner to advanced levels.

The final year includes a semester abroad or a work placement.
