Graduates who already hold a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent in a scientific or engineering discipline and wish to progress to senior fire safety management positions will find this top-up degree suitable. It builds on your existing technical knowledge and prepares you for leadership roles in fire safety within the built environment.

The programme is a full-time, one-year course delivered on campus. You study a suite of compulsory modules – Health and Safety Management, Enclosure Fire Dynamics, Fire Protection Engineering, Strategic Risk Decision Making, Hazards and Risk Management and a Fire Studies Dissertation – and each module combines lectures, seminars, laboratory work and project tasks. Assessment blends written exams, reports and the dissertation project.

In the Enclosure Fire Dynamics module (FV3001) you explore the dominant mechanisms of fire in enclosed spaces and develop skills in independent analysis, problem solving and professional presentations. Guest lectures from industry partners and access to the £35 million Engineering Innovation Centre further connect theory to real-world fire safety practice.
