Master in European Urban Studies (EUS)

European Urban Studies (EUS) is a four-semester master's programme that addresses current challenges facing cities in a globalised world. Its focus areas include social cohesion, urban housing, cultural diversity, sustainable planning, and mobility. The programme draws on urban planning, urban sociology, urban design, and landscape and spatial planning, and takes a transdisciplinary approach to studying urban development in Europe and beyond. The curriculum is organised around compulsory courses in European Cities, Urban and Landscape Planning, Urban Sociology, and research methodology, alongside a comparative study project, elective courses, a language course in a European language other than English, and a substantial research project abroad or in Germany. The third semester is typically spent at a partner university or research institute, where students carry out an independent research project under academic supervision. The fourth semester is devoted to writing the Master's thesis. The programme is designed for students who want to pursue careers in urban planning, research, academic institutions, or civil society, and also provides preparation for doctoral study. Students who complete the programme will have developed skills to analyse, research, and plan in the field of urban studies from a European and comparative perspective.
