About the Program

The master's programme in European Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, is composed of high-level postgraduate courses taught in English over a maximum of four semesters (two years). Students take classes from core, key, specialty and optional categories according to their academic specialisation and personal interest. The programme offers eight specialisations for students to choose from: EU Studies; Central and Eastern European Studies; Central and Eastern European Studies: Research Track; Europeanisation and Governance in CEE; Studies in the Holocaust and Totalitarian Systems; Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (CEERES); Governance, Leadership and Democracy Studies / EU Studies, a double degree run jointly with Universidade Catolica Portuguesa; and Law and Politics / EU Studies / Central and Eastern European Studies / Europeanisation and Governance in CEE, run jointly with Kobe University. This breadth of specialisations gives students considerable flexibility to shape the degree around a regional focus, a thematic focus, or a research-oriented track, depending on their career goals. The programme provides specialist training in European integration and the functioning of EU institutions, opening opportunities for graduates in units of state and local administration, education, media, non-governmental organisations, and international institutions, especially those connected to European integration. The regional specialisations give graduates a deeper understanding of Central and Eastern Europe specifically, useful for careers focused on that part of the continent. Jagiellonian University, one of Poland's oldest and most established universities, offers this programme through its strength in political science, history and area studies, drawing on partnerships with universities in Portugal and Japan for its double degree tracks.
