Master in English studies

University of Bialystok offers a master's program in English Studies, taught in English in Białystok, Poland, over two years. The program, described as English Philology, builds on advanced language skills, aiming for level C2 according to the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in one foreign language. Alongside language proficiency, graduates gain comprehensive and extensive knowledge in a selected specialization, chosen from linguistics, literature studies, culture studies, or applied linguistics. Graduates are described as able to integrate knowledge from various humanistic disciplines and apply it to atypical professional situations, independently solve professional problems, and draft relevant opinions based on incomplete or limited information, in accordance with principles of ethics, law, and economics. Graduates can communicate professionally with both experts and non-experts and organize teamwork, and they develop an open attitude toward other languages and cultures. Depending on the specialization chosen, graduates are prepared to work in institutions of culture, state administration, education, publishing houses, journal editorial offices, mass media, culture and research institutions, and the services sector, wherever advanced knowledge of languages and cultures is required. Graduates who complete a teaching specialization, in line with the educational standards of the university's Centre of Lifelong Learning, are also prepared to work as foreign language teachers. Graduates are additionally prepared to undertake research challenges and continue into third-cycle, or PhD, study. English studies as a discipline covers the language, literature, and culture of English-speaking regions, and a two-year master's program of this kind is designed to deepen both linguistic mastery and specialized academic knowledge within the field.
