About Master in English and American Studies

Applications close 1 Sep · 1 Mar.

The Master's programme in English and American Studies at the University of Augsburg allows students to shape their studies around their own research interests. Students choose between literary studies and linguistics as a major, and select a minor from literary studies, linguistics, cultural studies, or didactics (TEFL). The first three semesters are devoted to coursework, with students taking four to five courses per semester; the final semester is reserved for the master's thesis, which accounts for 25% of the overall grade. The programme includes a mix of graduate seminars, survey lectures, and exercise classes. In the first semester, a seminar orients students to the key theories and methods in their major. Beyond a small number of mandatory courses, students can select from around 15 to 20 thematic courses per semester. The programme also provides opportunities for study abroad and credits internships and other practical work experience. Alumni have gone on to work in publishing, media, education, and public relations, or have pursued doctoral study. The programme is offered at the University of Augsburg in Augsburg, Germany.
