The Elmitek Program supports Indigenous students in transitioning to university. It is offered through Unama'ki College at Cape Breton University. Students complete two semesters of for-credit courses in their home communities and on campus. The program helps build academic confidence and essential university skills. It prepares students to continue full-time studies in the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Community Studies degree.

After completing two semesters, students move into the full Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Community Studies program. They must accept their offer and confirm their seat to register for courses. The program does not award a standalone credential. Graduates continue their studies toward a three- or four-year degree depending on their chosen path.
