About BSc Ecosystem Sciences

The BSc in Ecosystem Sciences at the University of Göttingen is a 6-semester, research-based programme taught entirely in English and starting in the winter semester. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to ecosystem and environmental science, training students in methods that range from molecular-level analysis to landscape-level field and laboratory work. The first year introduces the fundamentals of ecology, biology, and the natural sciences. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge of ecological processes through practical courses covering laboratory techniques, field methods, and modelling tools. In the third year, students have the option to customise their studies with an elective semester: choices include a research internship anywhere in the world, participation in faculty research activities, elective courses at partner universities, or courses in Göttingen. The final semester is spent on the Bachelor's thesis. The programme is delivered by lecturers from the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology. Graduates are prepared for research or analytical roles in environmental sciences or for continuation into a Master's degree programme. The programme is offered at the University of Göttingen in Göttingen, Germany.
