About Master in Economics

The MSc in Economics at the University of Regensburg is a four-semester programme structured around three compulsory core modules in the winter semester — Advanced Microeconomics, Dynamic Macroeconomics, and Methods in Econometrics — followed by elective courses and a research seminar and Master's thesis in the fourth semester. Students accumulate 120 ECTS in total, with 30 ECTS from compulsory courses, 30 ECTS from the research module and thesis (24 ECTS thesis, 6 ECTS research seminar), and 60 ECTS from electives. The programme can begin in either the winter or summer semester. Within the elective component, students may specialise in Macroeconomics and Finance, Data Science and Microeconomics, or Real Estate, Regional and Trade. At least 36 ECTS of electives must come from the core economics programme; the remaining 24 ECTS may include courses from the Faculty of Economics and Business, internships, or language and IT courses. Elective specialisation courses are offered jointly with the International Real Estate Business School (IREBS). Highly motivated students may apply separately for an honours programme, which includes a mandatory exchange semester, mentoring, interdisciplinary seminars, and a one-week honours academy abroad. The programme is based at the University of Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany.
