Programme Profile

The Master's programme in Economics equips students with the essential tools of economics at an advanced level, and teaches them how to apply these principles to important, real-life policy tasks. The programme focuses on economic issues and policy orientation, aiming to develop economic generalists while offering the possibility of specialisation in well-defined focus areas.

The programme develops and tests students' economic intuition and analytical skills, with emphasis on policy orientation and empirical applicability, culminating in a dissertation.

Career Prospects

Graduates gain recognition and further career aspirations as economists in local and international organisations, with the ability to identify the economic dimensions of current policy issues and address future questions through independent economic research. The programme opens opportunities for doctoral study.

About University of Malta

The University of Malta is a public university in Msida, Malta. It was founded in 1592 and is the oldest university in Malta. The university has over 13,000 students and 1,500 staff members. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, and engineering. The University of Malta is ranked #601-800 in the QS World University Rankings 2024. It is also a member of the European University Association.

The University of Malta traces its origins to the Collegium Melitense, founded by papal charter in 1592, making it one of the oldest universities in the Mediterranean. How tuition works

This catalogue lists 20 of its master's and doctoral programmes, almost all taught in English. Full-time postgraduate fees follow published bands: €10,800 a year for arts and business-related programmes, €13,400 for science-based ones, €14,400 for the Executive MBA, and €11,000 for doctorates. Part-time and extended versions of the same degrees spread the same total cost over more years, which is why their published annual figure is lower.

Malta
