Master in Economics, Institutions, and Behaviour (MSc)

The MSc in Economics, Institutions, and Behaviour at Marburg University is a 4-semester programme taught entirely in English, with intake in both the winter and summer semester. It offers comprehensive training in economics with a distinctive emphasis on the economic analysis of institutions and behavioural perspectives, reflecting the view that economic performance depends critically on formal structures such as laws, regulations, and central bank design as well as informal institutions such as social norms. After completing foundational modules in Institutional Economics, Behavioural Economics, Theoretical Microeconomics, and Empirical Analysis, students choose from three specialisation areas: Political Economy, which examines the relationship between political competition and the economy; Sustainability, which addresses societal and organisational sustainability challenges using interdisciplinary methods; and Money, Accounting, and Finance, which covers financial markets from both economics and business administration perspectives. Additional elective credits can be earned through courses in other disciplines or an internship. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis in which students carry out an independent research project under the supervision of a faculty member.
